: I have a blue mist, rose of shannon, and spirea, and can not find info on when best to prune. I am new to gardening, and would appreciate any help. Thanks

Hi Pat,

Shrubs that bloom before June 1st should be pruned just after flowering. Plants that bloom in summer or fall should be pruned in late winter or early spring (Feb. to March). Here's some sites that should be helpful. Your Blue Mist is called Caryopteris and the Rose of Shannon is a Rose of Sharon.
