Shrub Recommendations for Entry

Hi, I have a 4 foot walkway in front of my house with some nasty Barberry bushes. I'd like to rip them out and plant some nice flowering shrubs which retain their leaves throughout the Winter. I live in zone 6 (Mass) and it's on the sunny side of the house. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks
