I have a line of lilacs along my back fence (the fence is only about 4 feet high). I don't know how old they are, but they are around 10-12 feet high and look more like trees. They are planted about 3 feet apart. The one in the corner was clearly ailing last year, but w/ a newborn baby we didn't get to do much with our new house. Now it looks like that one is barely hanging on and the one next to it is not looking too well either--few leaves except at the very top. There is a dead pine tree in the yard behind us, about 4 feet away, and there is a willow tree that hangs over parts of the yard, but they still get some sun.

Can I save the corner lilacs? Should I pull them? Help! Someone told me that pine bark is acidy--could that be the problem from the dead pine tree?
