: i want to plant a couple of redbuds in my yard, buti have heard that i should wait until the fall. i live in central north carolina and it gets pretty darn hot here in the summer. should i wait? if i don't wait, is there a decent chance they will survive the summer?

Hi FL,

Trees, shrubs and perennials often do best when planted in fall for several reasons. They don't have to fight many of the insects and diseases that occur in summer, they don't have to fight heat stress, and there is usually less drought conditions. With that said, your redbuds should do just fine if planted now and you water them regularly if it doesn't rain. This site should be helpful.

Good luck,
