birch tree

: I have 5 birch trees.  They have white bark that peels.  The leaves are dark green.  The problem that I have recently noted is the inner and lower branches are without leaves.  Up top and more peripheral the branches look full and leafy.  Can anyone give me some advice?  thanks!
