red sunset maple trees

: Last year we planted 3 senuset maple trees in backyard.
: This year everything was fine untile we went on vacation for 5 days.  when we returned 2 of the trees had yellow leaves and were falling off.  We had the landscaper that planted the trees out to look at them and he said that they were dry and needed water. This didn't make sense to us because one tree was fine.  Now almost all the leaves are gone and its only July 4.  Is this possible?  He said next year they should be fine but he is guarantying them for another year.
