Magnolia doesn't have much in the way of problems that you need to spray for.

Most issues seem to be due to watering and other factors.

I'd just concentrate of keeping it moist, mulched - and look at it every few weeks for visible insects.

2 summers ago, I had more than 60% of the leaves turn yellow and die on my Japanese Snowbell a week after I brought it home from the nursery.

All summer, it was quite bare. The following years it was fine once it got established and into "the rhythym.
