Maple Tree Spots

we have a gorgeous Maple which is 13 1/2 feet around. (not sure of age) A lot of the leaves have yellowish, tan spots covering them. Also, some smaller branches seem to be dying off. We have only lived here two years, so are not sure what is normal for a tree of this size and age. Thanks!
