Weeping Cherry Tree

: After learning that the Weeping Willow was a poor choice we settled on a Weeping Cherry Tree.  Once we got it home, however, the tree was swarmed with sweat bees, gnats, and seemingly any other flying insect that could flock to it.  Have we made another poor choice or is sudden insect attraction a normal happening?  Is there anything that can be done to reduce the number of visitors to our tree?
