How do I kill a tree without cutting it?

There are two 10 ft high pine trees, both in ridiculous locations that I would love to cut down,but my husband wont cut anything down unless its already dead.He agrees they are in a terrible spot,though.I cant take them anymore and I want to help them along.They are white pine trees.Can I give them a blight or poison them somehow?I was told that roundup only works on broadleaf weeds.Any good ideas?
