: We live in the Great Lakes areas that experinence severe cold. We were given a Hibiscus tree two years ago for an aniversary gift and need some care tips about feeding and pruning. We take it out in the spring and it does well. When we bring it in for the winter it drops all of it's leaves. Hi Alex, Your hibiscus will lose it's leaves when you bring it in for the winter as they tend to go dormant for the winter. Cut back on water and only water when the top inch of the soil is dry and don't fertilize until late winter or early spring (March). It's also best to bring it in before you turn on your heat so it will more easily adjust to the house temps. Prune in March as well. Hope this was helpful, |
