Split Leaf Philodendrom

A friend lives in Florida and during a recent visit she gave me some roots to her huge split leaf philodendron. What do I do with them? How do I get it to grow.
I live in zone 5 and would love to grow this plant. I have plent of room to move it in during the winter.
I just dont know what to do with the roots that i have.
