Gardenia Bush Thinning

We moved into our home 4 years ago and had a Gardenia bush in the front, this was BEAUTIFUL for the past 3 summers, this summer it strated thinning and looks stringy, I have SEVERAL blooms, which is not my problem, but it is real thin. Should I trim/prune this bush back? If so, when and how much, right now it is roughly 10 feet wide and 6 feet tall and has over 100 blooms but is vary thin. Please help!!
