: Hi, I am trying to find out how to correct a oops". My banana tree(Musa Basjoo / "Japanese Fiber Banana'') stalk broke, down to the base. What should I do next? The root is well established. Is it possible for the banana to grow back? Any special care. I am new to caring for banana trees. I live in the monterey/Salinas area of california.Any suggestion? Warner, I have no experience with musa basjoo as such but I have experience with apple bananas of two different kinds. As long as the root is well established - and in most cases even if it isn't - if musa basjoo is anything like the other bananas I kow, it grows back, pretty quickly too, as the established root now has nothing else to feed than a new shoot. I transplanted bananas (these are very tall growing ones) in March, most of them were cut off at the ground, and the tallest ones are now 6 feet tall. Good luck and Aloha, Maren in Hilo, HI
