: I recently bought some hosta plants from a nursery that sends the plant through the mail.  When i recieved the plants the where dormant and I am confused about how to go about planting them.  They obviously have a root ball at the bottom, but the also have long root looking stems coming out of the root ball.  The whole plant is a gray color?  Help please.
