Hi Pat,
Actually, it's pretty hard to kill an EE plant. Here in LA they, several varieties, grow wild in the marshes. Lots of fertilizer, lots of water, direct sunlight is just fine and semi-sun is just as good.

In your winter climes you will need to cover with mulch to prevent freezing (death). Sprouts will appear from bottom.

Launch a search keyword "Elephant Ear". A site "emilycompost.com" etc., will appear. Good site for you. Lots of info.
