I grew corn last year and received advice from a friend who said to go around touching the tassels to essentially "pollinate" the corn. If you don't do this, the cobs may be incomplete in terms of the kernels. The cobs I did this on turned out nicely. I definitely would not top the tassels off and don't plan to this year.
