zucchini problems

I live in the Massachusetts area and my zuke plants have been doing fine and have produced a few good solid sized zukes. The plants seem like they are in good shape with no visible pest damage but the new smaller zukes 6" to 8"long are getting spongy and soft.
Any help would be helpful.
