wintering Aspagagus plants

HI , I live in West Virginia, just planted some aspagagus plant this spring. Of couse i know that , it will be a few years before i can have any to eat. I just need to know what to do to them to winter them . I wouldnt want them to freeze out. Thanks Linda Lou
