: I live in south florida. Im having a problem with black ants. They seem to be hanging out on the leaves and stems of my plants. Does anyone know how to get rid of them. There are also little white fuzzy things sticking to the stems. I don't know if the two problems are related. Please offer some advice.
If you've got ants on your plants, check for aphids. they' secrete a sugary liquid that the ants really go for. they in effect, herd them, like cattle. take care of the aphids and the ants'll skidaddle. as for the fuzzy clinging things, are they relatively immobile or will they fly off and return if you shake the plant? if the latter, it's whiteflies and you can soap 'em off. if the former, sounds like mealybugs, which i haven't seen in years, and never on tomatoes. the soap'll take care of them too. good luck
