:    you are going to need lots!!! of organic matter. peat, peat moss, compost. if you can bear not planting anything this year, sow several green manure crops to add organic mature as they decompose. after sowing you let them grow for several weeks then turn them under the soil, and plant again. buckwheat's the best, large seeds, easy to sow, and ready to turn under in a little over a month. find some organic gardeners, they'll know about it. perhaps they can suggest an alternative to the buckwheat. good luck
