Is this correct or would I need more? Do I need to add anything to my top soil? The good news is quick draining soil that is mostly composed of sand improves fairly easily with liberal addition of compost. The bad news is sandy soils drain off water quickly. I would enquire if your local transfer station gives away--sells municipal compost, the stuff made out of leaves collected in the fall. If yes simply haul as much as you can to till into the garden as early as you can work it into your garden, till as soon as you can walk of thawed ground.
