old grape vines

: I recently purchased a house with an old grape arbor
: at the back of the property, in full sun.  The arbor
: posts have rotted at ground level and were threaded with
: heavy wire cabel, which is quite rusted now, to support
: the vines.  The off-shots are alive; some of the original
: vines are as thick as young trees and cracked in a few
: places; however, the cracks seem to have healed over.
: I want to try to bring this back.  The old vines are
: very heavy and lying on the ground.  Should I try to 
: raise them?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.
