Growing apple trees in a planter

First of all,I'm a gardening dummy! My 5 yr old daughter sprouted an apple seed & wants to plant it,
which I'll do & if it dies, it dies! But it prompted a
question. I live on an island with very limited garden
space....actually, I have none! Is it possible to grow
an apple tree in a planter?
