Backyard gone to the dogs

: I have two very active greyhounds who love "their" backyard! Unfortunately as they race around the yard they tear up the grass in many places. I've given up trying to grow grass. Does anyone have an idea of a mulch or other material that would cover the bare dirt and still look nice and make for easy doggy clean up? Thanks
