: : We just bought a house and have been here 3 months. The yard is a mess. I think there's more dandilion than anything in it. (well, maybe not) Honestly, I cant even tell what kind of grass was there except that all the neighbors have Bermuda. There are patches of San Augustine as well.

: Congratulations on your new home!  The best time to establish a lawn is in the fall.  You could use vinegar to kill the weeds, remove all the dead stuff either by raking or with a rented sod stripper, add compost and reseed.  Here's a few sites.  The first one explains how to sod, but the process is the same for seeding.
