Hello, I am hoping someone will have new suggestions on how to help/fix my problem. I live in New Zealand first of all and I dug a new area of grass up on the shady side of my house, to plant Punga ferns and other shade loving plants. After a couple of weeks of heavy rain, I checked on the plants and noticed heaps of black lumpy bits in the soil,on closer inspection I found it was coal!!! My house is about 85 years old and I guess someone must have buried coal from the fire awhile ago. One fern has gone black and my tree fern is starting to, so I will re-plant somewhere else but is there anything I can do for the soil? Or do I need to forget a garden there?
Thanks in advance
