Evergreen Container Garden

I have a beautiful new deck that would look wonderful with a few potted evergreens. I live in Louisville, Kentucky; winters can be cold and summers hot and humid. I really didn't want to use Dwarf Alberta Spruces because I find them to be a bit too formal and really a bit too short. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate the help.
