Now is a bit early, if you can wait till about 8 weels before you average first frost you can dig a smaller root ball.

If its now or never dig the biggest root mass you can (start at the drip edge of the shrub) to move them. The sooner you can replant and water shrubs back in, the happier they will be.

This is a heavier and grubbier job than I made it sound.
