Creeping Thyme

Hi folks,

I have a flower bed that is currently filled with creeping thyme (the kind you can walk on). I want to plant some lily bulbs in the bed but was not sure if the lilies would come up through the thyme or if the thyme would need to be removed first. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
