| Small tree with 3" rounded green to rich purple, almost black foliage. The name Smoke Tree comes from the lavender to purple plume-like panicles that form in summer, producing "poofs of smoke." Airy clouds of purplish red "smoke" in summer lend an exotic air. Unusual accent or specimen. 'Nordine' is the hardiest of the smoke bushes. It was selected to be in the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois for its color. The leaves hold purplish red color well into the summer, changing to yellow to orange-yellow in the fall. |
