Cotinus coggygria
( Royal Purple Smoketree )
| Small tree with 3" rounded green to rich purple, almost black foliage. The name Smoke Tree comes from the lavender to purple plume-like panicles that form in summer, producing "poofs of smoke." Airy clouds of purplish red "smoke" in summer lend an exotic air. Unusual accent or specimen. Thrives in poor rocky soils. Excellent drainage a must. 'Royal Purple' has foliage a rich maroon-red but matures to a darker, almost purplish red or black. The leaves are darker purple (and does not fade) than the cultivar 'Notcutt's Variety' and is less hardy than 'Nordine'. |
| Important Info : Thrives in poor rocky soils. Excellent drainage a must. This cultivar was raised at Boskoop, Holland and is the known to be the darkest purple leaved cultivar. |
