| 'Horace Read' has double white flowers with incurved disk florets ( 2 to 4 inches across) and gold centers begin blooming in May, with largest show around early June, then continue sporadically until frost. Often sold as Chrysanthemum maxiumum. Clump-forming perennial. Fleshy leaves are toothed and glossy dark green. Flower stalks are 2 to 4 feet tall making these splendid in borders. Shasta Daisies make excellent cut flowers, as they are long lasting ( most Chrysanthemums are). Tolerant of many soils, but do require water in hot, sunny climates. Divide clumps every 2 years or establish plants from seed. Grow Shasta daisies if you love to share plants with your friends. You'll all have plenty within 3 years! Remove and discard spent flowers to prolong bloom period. |
