Betula pendula
( European White Birch )
| Narrow, conical tree with warty, branchlets and white, peeling bark. Rough, dark cracks on trunks are characteristic of older trees. Leaves are green, toothed, diamond shaped and turn yellow in fall. Males bear tan colored catkins in early spring. This tree prefers cooler climates, developing too many disease problems in warmer areas. Nice when used with night lighting or planted in groves. To really show off bark, plant in front of a dark background. |
| Important Info : Very susceptible to birch borer, often short lived. |
