| Prunus padus is a rounded, low branched tree, 30 to 40 feet tall. The foliage is dark green in summer, becoming yellow or bronze in the autumn.
Leaves are alternate, simple, obovate to elliptic.
It bears small, white, fragrant flowers in mid spring on loose racemes, 3 to 6 inches long. Summer brings small, dark fruits, 1/4 to 1/3 inch in diameter. It flowers after the leaves emerge. One of the first trees to leaf out in spring with lovely light green new growth. Long cultivated, native to Europe, Asia. |
