| C. tomentosa is a 50-60' hickory, widespread throughout the eastern U.S., but not as common as C.glabra or C.ovata. The crown can be narrow to broadly rounded. Bark is thin, dark gray with furrows and ridges in a netted pattern. Found on dry ridges and slopes, but prefers moist, well drained soil. Native from Massachussets to Ontario, south to Florida and Texas. |
