| Solar Series are Triploid marigolds producing large, densely double flowerheads in orange with red flecking, sulfur-yellow and golden yellow. In general, marigolds are bushy annuals that have angular, rounded stems that are sometimes purplish in color. Late spring to fall flowers are plentiful and about 1 to 2.5 inches across. Though thought of as a summer annual, works well for fall plantings too, especially as a chrysanthemum substitute. Great for borders and containers. A natural insect repellant for herb and vegetable gardens. Remove and discard spent flowers to encourage extended flowering and reduce "housing" for insects and disease. Grow in full sun in well-drained soil. Cross between T. erecta and T. patula. |
