| 'Phipps Farm' is a fast growing, hardy, upright tree becoming broadly rounded with age. Reaches 40 to 60 feet tall and spreads 30 to 40 feet. Very suitable for the New England climate. New foliage emerges vibrant red, turns dark green in summer and intense fiery red in fall. Smooth, light gray bark becomes deeply ridged with age. Showy red flowers precede foliage on intriguing reddish branches. Exceptional fall color. An excellent lawn tree. Native to eastern United States. 'October Glory' (best heat tolerance) and 'Red Sunset' (better in cooler areas) are widely available. |
