| Spiraea japonica Alpina is a spreading, slow-growing deciduous shrub. Sharply toothed leaves are bluish-green, lance-shaped, to 1 inch long, persistent into fall, and almost evergreen in warmer climates of the south. In late spring, showy, pink flowers are borne prolifically in upright, rounded corymbs. Spiraea can be nipped by late frost, prune after flowering. Good for filling a space in a shrub border. Prefers full sun and well drained soil. Native to China and Japan. |
