| Spiraea japonica Coccinea is an upright, compact deciduous shrub with a bushy habit. Sharply toothed leaves are deep green on top, grayish-green below, lance-shaped, to 3 inches long, persistent into fall, and almost evergreen in warmer climates of the south. In summer, showy, dark crimson flowers are borne prolifically in upright, rounded corymbs to 4 inches in diamter. Spiraea can be nipped by late frost, prune after flowering. Fast growing, good for filling a space in a shrub border. Prefers full sun and well drained soil. Native to China and Japan. |
