| Spiraea japonica Froebelii is an upright deciduous shrub with a clumping habit. Sharply toothed leaves are deep green on top, grayish-green below, lance-shaped, to 5 inches long, persistent into fall, and almost evergreen in warmer climates of the south. Foliage is bronzy-red when young. In summer, showy, dark pink flowers are borne prolifically in upright, rounded corymbs to 8 inches in diamter. Spiraea can be nipped by late frost, prune after flowering. Fast growing, good for filling a space in a shrub border. Prefers full sun and well drained soil. Native to China and Japan. |
