| 'Alverda' produces sweet, mild heads which are green in color. This variety matures quite late, and in cooler climates can do with an early indoor start. In cooler regions, like the Maritime Northwest, cauliflower can be grown for summer and fall harvest. In milder areas with longer growing seasons and less risk of heavy freezes, they can overwinter, and be harvested in the spring.
Cauliflower likes fairly alkaline soil. Soils with even a mild acidity often do not produce worthwhile crops.
Start seedlings indoors 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost. In warmer climates, sow seeds 1/2 inch deep. Plants should generally be 24 inches apart, to allow for best head production. Water well throughout the season. |
