| Pterocarya fraxinifolia is a large, broad spreading rounded tree, reaching 30-50 feet in height and spread, normally. The leaves are compound, pinnate, attractive dark glossy green, free of pests. Fall color is yellowish-green. Late spring flowering, with greenish catkins, on males 5 inches, on females can be as long as 20 inches. The fruit is a winged nut, 3/4 inch wide, hanging on a slender 12-20 inch spike, interesting. Not bothered by pests, a good tree for large areas such as parks or school grounds. Native to Caucasus. |
