| 'Wampum' generally matures within 105 days. These 6.5 foot plants bear 2 small cobs on the main stalk, plus 2 to 4 ears on tillers when grown 10 inches apart in rows 3 feet apart. Kernels are multi-colored with yellow, gold, white, purple, blue-black, and blue. Husk colored varies from light-red to purple-red. Originally domesticated by Mesoamericans, it is a staple food with many other traditional uses. Home gardeners love to grow corn, and there are many varieties suited to different climates. Plant seeds 1 inch deep in rows or clumps, two weeks after the last frost date. Corn needs rich soil, full sun and adequate moisture to produce good ears.
