| The superb shade tree that brings to mind images of old, Southern plantations. Not the best tree for the small lot, but at home on wide open lawns. Do not expect lawns to grow well beneath this tree, as it hogs both sunlight and moisture. Ground covers will be your best solution. Live oaks do not like cold weather. They can be found in all types of soils from the sandy to the very moist. Withstands beach conditions very well. Drops oldest leaves in January, so wait to mulch and clean up around mid February. |
