| This is not the plant with the common name Amaryllis -- look for Hippeastrum. Strap-shaped leaves grow basally and die back before the flower stalk emerges. Pink, six-petaled, lily-shaped flowers are 2 to 4 inches long, and grow in clusters atop a strong, purplish flower stalk. Though division is important, do so only when extremly crowded. It is not unusual for this plant not to flower the year after it was divided. Unlike other bulbs, plant this bulb so tip is just below the soil. |
