| Spineless, deciduous shrub. Grows to 6 feet tall and wide. Dark green, malodorous leaves are round to ovate, 3 lobed, to 2 inches in length. White, bell-shaped flowers are held in pendent racemes, to 1 1/2 inches in length. Rounded, juicy, sweet, black fruit, to 1/4 inch across, has a blackberry flavor and can be used for jelly, jam, or sauces.
'Consort' is one of the few available varieties of R. nigrum because it is resistent to white pine blister rust. Most other varieties are alternate hosts to the rust. |
