Cucurbita pepo
( Cinderella Pumpkin )
| 'Cinderella', also known as 'Rouge Vif D'Etampes' is a centuries-old French heirloom variety with a glowing orange color, pronounced lobes, and flattened top. Excellent in pies, and as a winter squash. Small pumpkins are grown for cooking and eating, while the larger sizes are for Jack-o'-lanterns and exhibition. Most Cooperative extension services will be able to tell you which varieties are best for your area. |
| Important Info : The first pumpkin pies were made by pouring milk into a pumpkin which was then baked.
They can be difficult to grow outside the region in which they were developed. Baking hot, sandy soil, is generally a good bet for improving your crop. It is useful to have a cold frame to get the plants going early. |
