| Coastal variety of R. californica. Evergreen to semi-evergreen shrub with upright habit, growing to 12 feet tall and 8 feet wide. Leaves are medium green, shiny, oblong, to 3 inches in length. Shoots are reddish. Yellowish-white, unisexual flowers are borne in axillary clusters in late spring. In the fall, bears round, red fruit to 1/4 inch across and foliage becomes yellow. Best adapted to cold, dry areas with poor soil. Moderately drought tolerant, although appearance is improved when watered in summer. |
