| Shrub or small tree, very hardy and flower at an early age. Very tolerant of various soil and climates. Grown for it's profuse, showy flowers that bloom in early spring,usually pale pink or white to deep red-purple. Attractive foliage, and spreading growth habit. Dark green leaves are obovate to 8 in. long. Tulip-shaped flowers are fragrant, goblet-shaped, generally rose-pink, 3-6 inches across. Grow magnolias as specimans, or among other trees and shrubs. Number one problem may be that flowers can be burnt back by late winter, early spring frosts.
